Submersible Data Logging Instruments[top]

Common to all Data Loggers

All RBR data loggers have at least 8 Mbytes of memory, measure time accurately with drift of 1ppm/year (just over 32 seconds/year), and run from standard 2/3A size lithium batteries. Each channel is digitized with a 24 bit analog-to-digital converter, avoiding the need for special logarithmic sensors.

RBR sensor specifications are:

  • Temperature: ±0.002ºC.  Time constant of probe is 3 seconds (standard) or 0.095 seconds (optional fast probe).  Thermistor may also be embedded in the housing (30 second time constant).

  • Depth ±0.05% of full range  Standard ranges are 10 / 25 / 60/ 150 / 250 / 350 / 740 / 1,000 / 2,000 / 4,000 / 6,600m.

  • Conductivity ±0.003 mS/cm. For marine applications the sensor is a twin-coil inductive probe in a titanium housing with negligible external field.  For freshwater applications a three-electrode cell is used to give higher resolution.

All loggers use 2/3A size lithium batteries.  Further details of these batteries, together with estimates for battery life are available.

Two case styles are offered:  a Delrin® plastic case may be used for working depths to 740m, and a titanium case is available for depths to 8,500m or more.  All instruments may be supplied with an external underwater connector for data download or real-time use. Full details are given in the individual data sheets for each instrument.

RBR now offers rugged, weatherproof transit cases for storage or transport of all precision instruments.
