RBR is proud to introduce the Generation4 compact logger family – the next evolution of our most widely deployed instruments. Built on decades of field-proven performance, the RBRsolo4 and RBRduet4 compact loggers deliver greater flexibility, significantly increased memory, and expanded configuration options, all while maintaining the compact, robust designs RBR users trust.
From single-sensor deployments to advanced multi-parameter measurements, and from shallow coastal studies to abyssal depths, the Generation4 compact loggers are designed to meet the evolving needs of modern ocean observing programs.
A solution for every application
The Generation4 family spans a broad range of sensors, ensuring there’s a solution for virtually every deployment scenario:
- RBRsolo4 single-sensor solutions for temperature, pressure, turbidity, chlorophyll-a, optical dissolved oxygen, narrow-band radiation (rad), and photosynthetically active radiation (PAR)
- RBRduet4 two-sensor solutions combining pressure with any of the above parameters.
Flexibility with exchangeable sensors
We are excited to introduce the RBRsolo4 x and RBRduet4 D.x instruments, featuring exchangeable sensors. These allow you to connect any compatible RBR sensor to the x-channel and swap sensors as your project needs change.
Measure turbidity on one deployment, chlorophyll-a on the next—simply swap the sensor and redeploy.

Capable by design
Generation4 compact loggers offer powerful capability in a small footprint:
-
Infinite memory*
-
Any AA battery chemistry
-
Standard sampling up to 2Hz, and optionally up to 32Hz
-
Tidal averaging and wave analysis options (pressure)
-
USB-C download
-
Options to 10 000m (sensor dependant)
-
Compact and lightweight design
*not really, but we stopped counting at billions.

Don’t let memory or power be the limiting factor in your research
At the heart of the RBRsolo⁴ and RBRduet⁴ is a focus on longevity and reliability in the field. In addition to the standard single AA-cell configuration (any chemistry), these instruments are now available in a |2x version that adds a second AA cell to double the autonomy.
Two-sensor instruments also support independent sampling regimes, allowing one sensor to sample at a different rate than the pressure channel. This flexibility enables power optimisation without compromising data quality—extending deployments and expanding measurement possibilities.
Memory capacity across the compact range has been significantly increased to what we call “infinite memory”—ensuring storage will never be your limiting factor.
Designed and built with the user in mind
Every RBRsolo⁴ and RBRduet⁴ instrument reflects RBR’s commitment to precision, reliability, and ease of use. Calibration coefficients are stored with the instrument, operation is streamlined through RBR Ruskin software, and mechanical designs are optimised for real-world handling and long-term deployments – even in the harshest environments.
One family. Endless possibilities
With the Generation4 compact logger family, RBR brings together a comprehensive, cohesive instrument platform – flexible, configurable, and exceptionally capable.
