Adding to an already impressive range of marine sensors, RBR is proud to announce the launch of the RBRcoda chl-a sensor – a real-time chlorophyll-a sensor engineered for exceptional sensitivity, efficiency, and reliability, even at extreme ocean depths.
Designed to deliver high-quality chlorophyll-a data everywhere—from coastal monitoring programs to 6000m depths—the RBRcoda chl-a sets a new standard for deep-ocean biogeochemical sensing. Its compact titanium body, ultra-low power consumption, and flexible integration options make it a natural fit for the next generation of ocean observing systems.
Built for long-term deployments
Compact, lightweight, and exceptionally power-efficient, the RBRcoda chl-a is optimised for long-term deployments on autonomous platforms including loggers, floats, gliders, AUVs, and cabled observatories. Equally, with up to 32Hz sample rates available, rapid profiling is also an ideal application for this sensor.
The titanium housing, sapphire optical windows, and durable optical components are selected to minimise aging and maintain stability over extended deployments. Sapphire windows also support automated cleaning by wipers, helping to reduce affects of biofouling during long-term moored installations.
Sensitive measurements, clean signals
The RBRcoda chl-a provides accurate detection of low chlorophyll-a concentrations across a measurement range of 0–500 µg/L, with a detection limit as low as 0.020 µg/L, enabling users to capture subtle variability in phytoplankton abundance.
Using 470nm excitation and 695nm emission wavelengths, the sensor delivers clean, stable fluorescence signals ideal for both scientific research and operational monitoring. High linearity and stable optical performance ensure confidence in data quality across a wide range of environments.
Key performance features include:
- Sample rates up to 32Hz for high-resolution measurements
- Ultra-low power draw: just 6.5mJ/sample at 4Hz or slower
- Sleep current of only 10µA at 12V, maximizing system longevity
- RS-232 output for easy integration with a wide range of loggers and telemetry systems
- Available in both cabled and bulkhead configurations
Integration without limits
Whether integrated into an RBR logger or a user’s own platform, the RBRcoda chl-a is designed for scientists, monitoring agencies, and system integrators who require high-performance chlorophyll-a measurements without compromise—from coastal waters to the deep sea.
As always, RBR continues to make sense…..
